The following post attempts to bring Hungary's favourite breakfast dishes closer. Hungarian cuisine is well known to contain a lot of meat, paprika, peppers (sweet and hot), tomatoes, onions and bread. So it is no surprise that you will find these ingredients in our favourite breakfast dishes as well.

One of them is scrambled eggs or "rántotta" in Hungarian. We do like to eat this dish plain with some bread and fresh greens, but sometimes we love to add a bit of onions, Hungarian sausage called "kolbász", bacon and peppers. Hungarians love spicy food and we do have a pepper called "hegyes erős" that is quite hot. Another favourite is "bundáskenyér". This is the Hungarian version of the French toast, but it is a savoury dish and not sweet. You dip bread into beaten eggs and you fry it in a pan. A simple, but delicious breakfast choice when you visit Budapest. You can serve it with fresh salad and even a light sour cream sauce with garlic.

If you would like something sweet for breakfast, we have just the right thing for you. "Palacsinta" is the Hungarian word for pancakes. And we make delicious pancakes with various fillings and sauces.

Fresh pastries are to die for for breakfast. We can recommend two of our favourites: "túróstáska" which is a Hungarian pastry filled with sweet cottage cheese, soooo yummi. Another great choice is "kakaócsiga" which is a chocolate swirl. At Cafe Brunch Budapest, we have our own bakery where we bake these delicious pastries fresh every morning

If you are a bit more health conscious, try the home made granola with fresh yoghurt and fruits. A perfectly light choice that will keep you going all morning.
